Mallorca, the perfect place for golf tourism

The mild Mediterranean climate of Mallorca makes the island a paradise for lovers of golf every season of the year.  In summer the resident golfers are joined by the holiday golfers who want to get away from the sun and sand route to play their favourite sport.

Thanks to the relatively short distance between places on the island, the lovers of this sport are easily able to go to different Golf Courses.  A golfer´s dream is to be able to practice his sport on different courses because no two courses are the same.

Golf Courses in Mallorca

In Mallorca there are 23 Golf Courses, among them:

  • Golf Pollensa:  a 9 hole course situated in the north of Mallorca with spectacular views of the Tramuntana Mountains.
  • Club Golf Aucanada: in Puerto Alcudia and chosen in 2012 for His Majesty´s Cup Tournament by the Spanish Royal Golf Federation .  An 18 hole course which represents a challenge for any golfer.
  • Golf Canyamel:  this 18 hole golf course is in the north east of Mallorca and also has some wonderful views out over the Mediterraean Sea from the course itself.
  • Son Vida Golf:  this was the first Golf Course on the island and is situated in the Son Vida area of Palma.  It was also the first Golf Course in Europe to obtain the certification ISO 14001 and verification of the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).
  • Golf Andratx:  one of the most attractive courses for celebrity lovers of golf and with the longest hole in Spain

Golf as a way to bring all year round tourism to Mallorca

The climate of the Balearic Islands make its Golf Courses perfect for playing 365 days of the year. Not so in the north of Europe where the Courses are closed in the coldest months.

Although the climate is mild throughout the year, golf tourism tends to be centred on the winter months. So this type of specialized tourism could help to make Mallorca an all year round destination.

Golf players tend to spend more money than the average sun and sand tourist. They spend their money not only on the Golf Courses but also on other services and therefore benefit the island´s economy.

Thanks to a study by Golf Business Partners on “The economical impact of Golf in Spain” (text in Spanish), we know that the majority of golfers who come to Spain are from the United Kingdom, followed closely by Germans and Swedes.  The study concludes that access to information regarding Golf Courses is very limited and therefore many potential players are slipping through the net.  (This factor should be looked into and improved).

Pollensa Golf Course as a real estate investment

Although Mallorca has a reasonably good number of Golf Courses, there is room for improvement making a golf course a sound business investment.

We know that the island attracts golfers thanks to:

  • The Mediterranean climate
  • The diversity of the Golf Courses
  • The short distance between the different courses (an added value factor for the majority of players)
  • All year round tourism
  • All round benefits for the island economy (not just for Golf Courses)

We also know that many potential Golf Course users are hampered by lack of information.

If you are looking to invest in Mallorca, Pollentia Properties can offer you a fantastic business investment opportunity on the Pollensa Golf Course, which is for sale including a planning permission for a 55 room hotel at the best possible price due to it being a bank repossession. There are also plots for sale on the Pollensa Golf Course complex with the possibility to build 11 two storey single family homes.
