Although the Mallorcan municipality hosts a full programme of celebrations from the 26th of July until the 2nd of August, the last day is when most activities take place. On the 2nd of August in Pollensa the Mare de Déu dels Àngels, more commonly known as La Patrona is celebrated. An eagerly awaited event for people of all ages with the most traditional customs occupying the most important part of the day. The l’Alborada anthem of Pollensa announces that this special day as arrived.
Another popular part of this celebration is the Ball dels Cossiers, a dance which has been revived after 71 years in which 12 men and one woman (the lady) dance to the rhythm of the music.
The event which attracts the most attention among tourists is the representation of the battle between the Moors and the Christians. The inhabitants of Pollensa form two groups, the Moors, with their faces painted and the Christians dressed in white. Thousands of people attend this well-known event where the Moors and the Christians battle against each other in friendly rivalry in the Carrer Mayor in the town of Pollensa. The act comes to an end when, following three battles, the Christians raise their weapons high and take over the pirate flag.
