The capital city of Mallorca will undergo some significant changes during the next few months as a result of the Spanish Government authorizing the Baleares Port Authority to put out to contract the redevelopment project of the Seafront Boulevard in Palma.
The project has been set up with the objective of reducing the presence of vehicles in the area, putting in place more pedestrian crossings and, above all, promoting the use of public transport.
The cost of redeveloping the Palma Seafront Boulevard will be in the region of 43 million euros and if everything goes according to plan, work will begin in 2022 and will last for 20 months.
Pollentia Properties has an office in the centre of Palma which allows us to get the maximum benefits from the city and to observe at close hand the changes that are taking place.
Therefore on this occasion we would like to share the details of the redevelopment of the Palma Seafront Boulevard with all the blog readers. This project goes hand in hand with a large number of changes taking place in one of the most beautiful and busy areas in the city. Let´s take a look at the main features of this undertaking which will commence at some point in 2022.
A key to the Palma Seafront Boulevard redevelopment is the focus on improving spatial interaction between the port and the city and on reducing the presence of motor vehicles.
For this reason the project will include the reduction of vehicle lanes with the aim of allowing for two lanes in each direction instead of the three or four lanes currently in place.
The new project for the redevelopment of the Palma Seafront Boulevard also includes the objective of increasing the number of pedestrian crossings from the 12 currently in place to a total of 26 when the work is finished.
The redevelopment process will also include installing several retaining walls which will correct the characteristic sloping nature of the Boulevard.
The transformation of the Palma Seafront Boulevard will make the relocation of bus stops necessary. Furthermore, the redevelopment will allow for a public transport system of trams or express bus.
The protection of existing green zones has also been taken into account in this new project. So during the process the current number of trees and palm trees will be maintained and at the same time there is a plan to plant 2.000 new trees.
When people go to the Palma Seafront Boulevard after the work is finished they will be able to use the WI-Fi connection in the whole area, enjoy a new street lighting system and have some special moments with the children in the kid´s playgrounds dotted along the Boulevard.
Lastly, this redeveloment project wil also extend the bike lane along the whole of the Seafront Boulevard and it will have a different colour to separate it from the pedestrian path.
