On 11 October, Parc de la Mar will host the second edition of the Ciutat de Palma Canoeing Trophy, a competition that made its highly successful debut in 2024 and will once again bring together some of the world's best specialists this year.
The event is organised by the Real Club Náutico de Palma (RCNP), which remains committed to bringing this thrilling sport to the city in a unique and spectacular format, right at the foot of Mallorca’s iconic Cathedral.

Just like last year, the programme will include two main blocks:
Featuring promising young national canoeists who represent the future of the sport.
24 paddlers (12 men and 12 women) from 10 countries will battle it out in Palma’s spectacular setting.
The men’s field will feature world-class names such as Germany’s Tom Liebscher (three Olympic medals), Spain’s Marcus Cooper (three Olympic medals), Portugal’s Fernando Pimenta (three Olympic medals and over 130 international medals), and Spain’s Álex Graneri, who has 15 international medals to his name and is a member of the RCNP.
In the women’s category, highlights include Portugal’s Teresa Portela, a five-time Olympian; Poland’s Anna Pulawska, double world champion; Germany’s Paulina Paszek, with two Olympic medals; and Spain’s Lucía Val, world champion in women’s K4 in 2023.

Event coordinator Carlos Borrás explains that last year was a ‘beta phase,’ and this time international interest has exceeded expectations, with Hungary and the United States joining the line-up.
To add more spectacle, the races include a tacking manoeuvre that pushes athletes out of their comfort zone and heightens the excitement for spectators. “At the World Cups, Spanish athletes tell me their teammates ask how to join the Ciutat de Palma,” says Borrás. “That’s why we’ve added a new Open phase, with worldwide registration and a mixed K2 category, allowing sprinters and long-distance paddlers to compete on equal terms.”
Organisers are in talks with Palma City Council to relocate the base within Parc de la Mar closer to Antoni Maura Street and Paseo del Borne, providing greater proximity to the public. This adjustment would enhance the viewing experience while strengthening the event’s connection with central Palma and the seafront atmosphere of Paseo Marítimo.
The competition counts on the support of Piraguas Nelo, Palma City Council, Paddle Games, the Royal Spanish Canoeing Federation, and the Balearic Canoeing Federation.
