In December 2025, Mallorcan artist Toni Font Marquès presented Diàlegs Íntims at 6A Taller i Galeria d’Art in Palma. The exhibition brought together original works and graphic pieces and offered a closer look at his creative process.
Rather than simply presenting a finished body of work, Diàlegs Íntims explored something central to Font’s practice: transformation. Drawing, collage, painting and printmaking came together through a process in which compositions could be altered, cut, reconsidered and allowed to evolve.
The exhibition provides an interesting starting point from which to discover an artist whose creative life has been closely connected to Mallorca, its landscape and its artistic culture for more than two decades.
Born in Pollença in 1977, Toni Font lives and works in Mallorca. His studio, located beside the Museu de Pollença, has been his creative base since the beginning of the 21st century: a place for both artistic production and professional exchange.
His relationship with art in Mallorca also has strong local and family roots. Font is the nephew of the former managers of the historic Galeria Bennàssar in Pollença, where he held some of his first exhibitions.
From this local beginning, his practice has developed through individual and collective exhibitions in Mallorca, Madrid and elsewhere in Spain, while Pollença has remained a constant point of reference.
Font describes his creative field as being concerned with the relationship between people and their surroundings, from everyday experience to more existential questions. Landscape, therefore, is not simply a backdrop to his work, but part of a wider exploration of how we perceive and relate to the world around us.
Font graduated in Design, specialising in Interior Design, from ELISAVA in Barcelona. As part of his studies, he participated in the Sócrates exchange programme with the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where his work included an urban planning project as well as studies in photography and the history of Chilean design.
His time in Chile would also have a creative impact. Encountering unfamiliar natural landscapes helped open new avenues of personal and artistic exploration, reflected in early works combining drawing and collage.
Over the years, Font has continued to expand this multidisciplinary foundation through specialised training in photography, historical photographic processes such as cyanotype, the study of the vegetal landscape of the Balearic Islands, bioconstruction and bioclimatic architecture.
His work brings together art, photography, landscape, design and the built environment.
Since beginning to develop his creative work around 1999, Toni Font has built a substantial exhibition history.
His solo exhibitions include Essències at Bennàssar Galeries in Pollença (2007), Arquimalia at Intersecció Art Galeria in Palma (2011), Estudis de la Llibertat at Galeria Joan Melià (2013–14), Síntesi at Hito Gallery in Pollença (2015) and Mirades complementàries at Espai d’Art 77 (2023).
Font has also participated in collective exhibitions, competitions and art fairs including Art Madrid, Dearte, Room Art Fair, JäälPhoto, Incart and the Biennal d’Art de Pollença.
In 2010, he received first prize in the Jóvenes Maestros section at the Dearte fair in Madrid. His work is also represented in public collections including the Fons d’Art Contemporani del Consell de Mallorca and the collection of the CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo in Madrid.
His trajectory reflects the richness of art in Mallorca: a creative environment in which a strong connection to place can coexist with experimentation and a practice extending well beyond the island.
Presented at 6A Taller i Galeria d’Art in Palma in December 2025, Diàlegs Íntims brought Font’s way of working into particularly sharp focus.
The exhibition combined unique pieces with graphic works, creating a dialogue between drawing, collage, painting and printmaking. Bringing Font’s creative process into printmaking presented a particular challenge. His work is constantly evolving: pieces can be altered, fragmented and reconstructed rather than considered finished at a fixed point.
Colour also took on renewed importance. While Font’s earlier work frequently explored black and white, Diàlegs Íntims incorporated more striking tones, introducing another layer of experimentation into the exhibition.
The selection and installation were developed in collaboration with Bel Font, director of 6A, who also brought works back into view that had remained in the artist’s studio following his previous exhibition.
In this sense, Diàlegs Íntims was not only an exhibition of completed pieces. It offered an insight into the dialogue that takes place within the studio itself: between intuition and decision, construction and deconstruction, the work as it exists and the possibilities of what it might still become.
The setting was particularly fitting. 6A Taller i Galeria d’Art, active in Palma since 1982, began as a printmaking workshop and has maintained a close relationship between artistic production and exhibition.
Its focus on original graphic work and contemporary creation made it a natural setting for Font to translate the experimental processes of his Pollença studio into printmaking.
Spaces such as 6A form part of the diverse network of art galleries in Palma, Mallorca, helping to shape the island’s cultural identity. Beyond its historic heritage, Mallorca continues to provide an environment in which contemporary artists, galleries, workshops, designers and architects interact with a landscape that has inspired generations of creators.
Font’s relationship with space extends beyond galleries and exhibitions.
His background in design and interior architecture has led him to participate in the artistic direction and production of projects for hotels and other architectural spaces in Mallorca. His portfolio includes work associated with El Llorenç Parc de la Mar, El Vicenç de la Mar, Desbrull and Es Figueral Nou, as well as the artistic project RockVilla.
These collaborations reveal another dimension of his practice: the ability to consider artwork in relation to the space it inhabits.
It is a connection that feels particularly relevant in Mallorca, where architecture, interior design, craftsmanship, landscape and contemporary art increasingly come together to create spaces with a distinctive sense of place.
For Font, the boundaries between these disciplines are naturally porous. His work as an artist, designer and photographer allows the image, the object and the surrounding environment to become part of the same visual conversation.
Toni Font’s career illustrates something distinctive about Mallorca’s creative identity. His work is deeply rooted in a specific place — Pollença and the island where he was born and continues to work — while remaining open to influences, techniques and projects from elsewhere.
